Vicuña, a relative of the camel and llama, thrives in the high altitudes of the Andes. It is known for its wonderful soft wool which is highly prized in the luxury textile industry. Vicuña wool is considered one of the rarest and most valuable natural fibres in the world.
Legend has it that the Incas were the first to appreciate the value of this animal's fleece and crafted garments for nobility from this impressive material. Today, each strand of Vicuña wool is about 12 micrometres in diameter, making it much finer than any other wool.
The Vicuña is a tiny, beautiful animal, often dubbed as the 'queen of the Andes'. Capturing the spirit of the Andes, its wool embodies the romance and mystery of this harsh, beautiful landscape. Vicuñas live for about 15 to 20 years, during which they can provide several harvests of their prized wool.
Harvesting Vicuña wool is a challenging process due to the animal's wild nature and the extreme environments where they live. To ensure the Vicuña population remains stable, strict regulations are in place to protect these animals and their valuable wool.
With its unparalleled fineness, Vicuña wool is an epitome of luxury. Due to its rarity and quality, it is greatly sought-after by global textile and fashion industries.
