CASHMERE MATERIALS & YARNS

Materials for Refined Cashmere Programmes

From fibre, yarn count and machine gauge to handfeel, finishing, documentation and bulk readiness — material decisions at Kanchan Cashmere are treated as part of product engineering.

Material Strategy

Material decisions define performance before the first stitch.

Before a garment becomes shape, colour, or silhouette, it begins as a material decision.

At Kanchan Cashmere, we select yarns for the way they live inside a garment — how they hold structure, recover after wear, respond to washing, carry colour, and preserve softness over time.

Softness matters. But softness alone is not enough. A luxury cashmere garment must also have balance, memory, movement, resilience, and a handfeel that remains honest after finishing.

This is our material philosophy as a luxury cashmere manufacturer in Nepal: choose with care, test with discipline, and let the final garment prove the decision.

BEFORE YARN SELECTION

The right yarn starts with the right product brief.

Material is not selected in isolation. Design, target weight, machine gauge, target price, finishing, quantities and delivery window must be considered together.

Product PurposeLayering, sweater, outerwear, scarf or accessory programmes require different yarn and construction decisions.
Technical SuitabilityYarn count, ply, machine gauge, structure, elasticity and finishing response must work together.
Commercial FitYarn consumption, target price, MOQ, colour quantity and available lots influence the realistic material route.
DocumentationCertification needs, composition, supporting documents and buyer requirements are reviewed before claims are confirmed.

Fibre · The beginning of every garment

The Beginning Is Fibre

Every material carries its own character.

Cashmere is not a single feeling. It can be warm and structured, light and fluid, brushed and atmospheric, or clean and quietly precise.

The role of the manufacturer is to understand that character before production begins. Fibre, yarn count, ply, twist, machine gauge, stitch structure, wash and finishing must work together — otherwise softness, weight, stability and silhouette will not remain controlled.

Our material work begins with that judgement.

The Language Of Yarn

A yarn is selected for what the garment must become.

Fine-gauge layering requires a different material logic from a sculptural cable, a brushed winter sweater, or a fluid cashmere-silk wrap.

We study the relationship between yarn and construction: count, ply, twist, stitch definition, surface, weight, recovery, and wash behaviour.

This allows us to advise buyers not only on what feels beautiful today, but what will perform beautifully after sampling, production, finishing, shipping, and wear.

The Materials We Work With

Material families are selected according to product purpose.

Each material family offers a different balance of warmth, softness, movement, surface, and responsibility.

01

Pure Cashmere

The Foundation

The material at the heart of our work. Chosen for its exceptional balance of warmth, softness, breathability, and resilience, pure cashmere remains one of the most versatile fibres in luxury knitwear. Its refined handfeel and ability to adapt across a wide range of gauges and structures make it suitable for everything from lightweight layering pieces to substantial winter knitwear.

02

Baby Cashmere

Exceptional Softness

Among the rarest and most refined fibres used in luxury knitwear. Its remarkable softness, lightness, and delicacy create a handfeel that is instantly recognisable yet difficult to describe. Reserved for projects where comfort and exclusivity are equally important.

03

Recycled Cashmere

Responsible Luxury

Luxury should not only be beautiful. It should also be thoughtful. Recycled cashmere reflects a contemporary approach to material development, combining responsible sourcing principles with the comfort, warmth, and quality expected from premium knitwear.

04

Cashmere Silk

Movement And Elegance

Where warmth meets fluidity. The combination of cashmere and silk creates a material distinguished by softness, graceful movement, and subtle luminosity, making it ideal for lightweight knitwear, scarves, wraps, and elegant layering pieces.

05

Brushed Cashmere

Softness Reimagined

Through specialised finishing techniques, brushed cashmere develops a soft halo that enhances warmth, depth, and visual richness. The result is a distinctly contemporary interpretation of luxury.

“The right material does not simply make a garment softer. It gives the garment memory, movement, and quiet strength.”

The Partners Behind The Yarn

We work with selected spinning partners, not anonymous materials.

Our material sourcing is built around consistency, continuity, colour depth, technical performance, and responsible documentation.

For premium programmes, our selected yarn partners are Cariaggi, Consinee and Top Line. Article, colour, count, lot availability and documentation are confirmed programme by programme before development or bulk planning.

Material Selection By Method

The swatch is where material truth begins.

Before bulk production, a yarn must prove itself through swatching, prototyping, washing, blocking, and measurement review.

We look at how the material behaves in the chosen gauge and stitch — how it grows, recovers, softens, holds shape, and carries the intended silhouette.

This disciplined process protects both design intent and production reliability.

MATERIAL VALIDATION

A yarn becomes a bulk standard only after it proves itself in the product.

Swatch, prototype, wash, measurement review and PP approval connect material choice with production reality.

SwatchSurface, density, elasticity, weight, yarn consumption and first handfeel.
Wash & FinishingDevelopment of handfeel, loft, surface, dimensional stability and colour expression after finishing.
Prototype / PPMaterial is assessed in the full garment against construction, fit, weight and intended silhouette.
Bulk ReferenceApproved yarn, colour, wash and finishing parameters become part of the production standard.

Responsibility Without Overclaiming

Responsible material claims must be specific, documented and programme-based.

We believe responsible luxury should be documented carefully, communicated honestly, and never overstated.

Certified PartnersYarns may be sourced via partners holding OEKO-TEX®, GOTS, GRS, OCS, and SFA-related documentation depending on article and lot.
Lot AwarenessMaterial readiness, certificate scope, and yarn availability are confirmed before scheduling buyer programs.
Quality BenchmarkMaterial selection connects directly to AQL 2.5 quality discipline, shade control, finishing, and shipment release.
Clear ClaimsWe avoid unsupported sustainability statements and confirm documentation before client-facing certification claims.

KANCHAN CASHMERE MATERIAL STANDARD

A beautiful yarn is only the right choice when it performs in the finished product.

Material quality is not proven on the yarn cone alone. It is proven after knitting, washing, finishing, wear and reorder — through softness, shape, weight, surface and continuity.
